In the previous edition of Brabant News, we reported that ConPipe had again chosen the quality offered by Staalstraal Brabant for one of their projects. Work for ConPipe is meanwhile well and truly underway. The first project phase saw us spray-paint 84 12-metre tubes for a fire-extinguishing system.

On account of the intended use, the client wanted these tubes to be painted in the kind of bright-red colour that you would expect a fire piping system to have. But, to everyone’s dismay, it later turned out that these tubes should have been painted white. We are meanwhile working on the second spray-painting phase, which again involves a batch of 12-metre tubes. After that, there will be one more batch. And we are painting them white this time!

After painting, the tubes will be loaded onto a flat track to be shipped to Abu Dhabi via the port of Antwerp. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates on the Persian Gulf.

Besides spray-painting fire-extinguishing pipes, ConPipe also commissioned us to treat 1,000m² of steel tubes with a fibreglass-reinforced epoxy coating. We applied two layers of paint as the basis for the polyethylene wrapping. ConPipe themselves wrapped this fibreglass coating, which they did at our plant, and they also took care of overnight shipping to the port of Antwerp, from where the tubes were shipped on to Abu Dhabi. It was a pleasant and good partnership! •
