A full-page article in the Brabants Dagblad newspaper on 2 February 2012 instantly put Straco Waspik on the map, raising awareness of their services after their successful abrasive blasting and coating work for the Floriade World Horticultural Exposition. Straco Waspik had been brought in to work on this project by Schijndel-based Aa-Dee Staalbouw. The work involved abrasive blasting and coating of the entrance bridge to the Floriade site in Venlo. Visitors to the World Horticultural Exposition will be able to marvel at this stunning bridge until 7 October at least (www.floriade.nl).
The bridge has a total length of 60 metres, and is 10 metres wide, while it rises 4.5 metres above the ground. Straco Waspik was on a tight deadline, because the world’s largest agricultural and horticultural exhibition, which is held in the Netherlands every ten years, had to open on 5 April.
Walther Stultiens, assistant manager: “Such a massive project in such a short period of time is something you can only pull off by deploying a lot of manpower. And so we did, and how! A project like this really shows how committed everyone is. Our people were even willing to work evenings and weekends to get this architecturally stunning bridge ready on time. We are all extremely proud of the end result. Funnily enough, we had included tickets to this year’s edition of the Floriade in our employees’ Christmas hamper, before we landed this order. All the positive publicity surrounding this project was the icing on the cake for the Straco employees who worked on it.
